For General Matter we started at the beginning of the supply chain, with the rock itself. The set crops tight into grey stone, lit flat against a pale void so none of it reads as landscape. No horizon, no scale cue, nothing to tell you how big any of it is. What's left is surface: the grain, the fracture, the weight of raw material handled with the attention usually reserved for a finished product. The subject is the substance before anything has been done to it.
